A Brand New Bad New Year

Another bad year has gone past us with its share of the ever delightful bad movies. Several popular Websites and Television Channels, especially the ones from India have come up with lists like 'Ten Worst Films of 2009'. Whatever those lists maybe but one this is clear, that the hype around these 'worst' ones is slowly garnering strength. Until a couple of years ago, such a craze surrounding bad movies were unheard of in public forums. Well, if this is the kind of attention bad movies receive when a year rounds up then we can proudly exchange a few pats on our shoulders, for we are the ones who relentlessly fought for the cause called 'Bad Movies'. And now it has arrived and is here to stay!

So, quite naturally, we wont be publishing any list, as reviewing bad movies is what we do year round. We know that bad memories linger around longer than expected and hence it is quite difficult to erase a few shocks Year 2009 gave us. But dont relax guys, this year too promises some really pathetic ones. Lets wait and see.

Cheers.

  1. I am awaiting a really bad bad movie...One that would make my adrenalin rush...Sharukh disappointed me by relating his goat cries with an autism laden character and thereby ensuring that My name is Khan will not fall in his use genre of pathetic movies.
I am sure he will make up for this with his next flick...
Allu arjun, eagerly awaiting your contribution to the malayalm movie industry...

  2. Pappan, loved your comment on SRK though i took a dissenting view on Allu Arjun.

Firstly, it was reported by TOI that "The worst fears of Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal have come true" and not "malayalam industry" as you had mentioned. While the statement itself is far fetched, it is true that the supposedly youth icons of Kerala (read Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Kunchak, Gopumon) feel a chill down their spines (if they have any) everytime they hear the name Allu Arjun. If one goes by dedicated fan base a hero holds while discussing stardom, then Allu Arjun's fans outnumbers the collective fan base of all others mentioned by a huge margin. It doesn't end there. His blockbusters Arya and Krishna or superhits Happy, Bunny etc were not in the league of 'intellectual' Malayalam movies which our afore-mentioned heroes become part of. Yet he managed to elevate those movies to box office successes, which is exactly what a star should do. Moreover he is humble and always begins his conversation by apologizing for not speaking in proper Malayalam (his mother tongue being Telugu). He shows respect and gratitude for his fans across the State and hence he deservedly reigns over the rest as the Style Star of Kerala.

Please go to the link given above and watch his interview and make comparisons with those of Prithviraj/Gopumon (if you can stand their verbal assault, that is).
